Owner's name, town, and year on the front pastedown with a series of numbers below. The front endpaper has a pencilled inscription on which I cannot make out the names. The text of the inscription is: "To mine loyal assistant in der experiments conducted at der Schtunken-Werkes (?) in Baden-Baden..." A couple of pencil lines on last two pages of text. Includes many illustrations and an index; 264 pages.

B&W illustrations and photographs throughout. Clean pages. Notable foxing and tanning to endpapers and page edges. Previous owner's inscription sticker to front endpaper. Some gutter cracking. Mild wear and bumping to spine, board edges and corners, with small splits (approx. 5mm) and crushing to spine ends. Minor scuffing and marking across the boards. Book has a forward lean. Unclipped dust jacket. Moderate wear, tear and loss to edges and corners. Notable insect damage along joints and edges. Distinct foxing, tanning and soiling all over.
