About This Item

New York: Random House, 1961. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 9x6x1. Lacks jacket, boards rubbed. 1961 Hard Cover. 437 pp. As actor, playwright or director--and often in all three capacities simultaneously--Emlyn Williams has been in the theatre ever since leaving Christ Church, Oxford in 1927. George Emlyn Williams was born in 1905 in rural Wales, the son of a former housemaid and a father who was variously a seaman, grocer, pubkeeper and iron-worker. His early years were spent in near poverty--and some deprivation, for his companions and elders had little understanding of his intelligence and imagination. One of England's most celebrated playwrights, the author of over a dozen plays, among them Night Must Fall, The Light of Heart, The Wind of Heaven and The Corn Is Green.
