DJ: Near Fine; light bumping to lower tips. Lavender cloth boards and spine with bright purple lettering on the spine. 262 pp 8vo. This study of women prisoners in men's penitentiaries from 1865 to 1915 shows that the women, already faced with distinct gender disadvantages within western society, were subjected to intense physical and mental violence while in prison and the lower the social class, the worse it got. The book utilizes the prison records and the words of the women themselves. A clean very presentable copy.
