Utrecht: De Gemeenschap, 1934. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. ND. [1934]. Scarce pioneering novel in the Dutch New Objectivity tradition, ostensibly an examination of Henry Ford's life and auto manufacturing methods. M Revis (pseudonym of Willem Visser) had already published 8,000,00 m3 Zand, a novelised history of a Dutch sand quarrying company. In very good order. Endpapers are heavily tanned, but text is clean and bright. Perhaps most notable is the binding design by A W Oosterbaan, with a red panel front an back, on cream cloth, and an automobile photo and title montage to the front. Red titling to spine. There is a little light wear to the panels, but in general this is a very good example. 12mo. 169pp

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence.
