Syracuse: Printed At The Journal Office, 1871. Cloth. Good. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A very scarce local directory from the late nineteenth century, once being an important business tool for those living in the American county of Ulster. This work now offers a fascinating insight into commerce in American in the nineteenth century. Very scarce. Compiled and published by Hamilton Child. A work of local interest, being a comprehensive business directory of the county of Ulster, New York for the years 1871 to 1872. With publishers advertisements throughout. Of these advertiser's the author states in the introduction of this work, 'The Advertisers represent some of the leading business men and firms of this and other counties; and we most cheerfully commend them all to the patronage of those under whose observation these pages may come'. Collected complete, featuring a large quantity of advertisements from the local area from cancer cures, to sewing machines, to watchmakers. Illustrated with a folding map to the front of the volume, being a map of the county. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally sound, with light bumping to the head and tail of the spine, resulting in a small amount of loss to the backstrip. Light bumping to the extremities, with light fraying to the cloth. The front and rear hinges are strained, with the cords visible to the front joints. Internally generally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with light age toning, scattered spots and the odd mark. Complete with the publisher's original advertisements. Good
