About This Item
Buenos Aires: Editorial Pampa, 1960. 328 pp. Smooth brown leather covered boards with gilt. Gold tooled border and title. Minor wear to the extremities and moderate wear to the edges of the spine, which has some wrinkling and a bit of chipping. Beautiful marbled endpapers. Light foxing on the top edge of the text block. This is from a limited edition of 3,020 copies, with only 100 copies containing a printed original drawing from Alberto Guiraldes, of which this copy is one. This is number 82; the volume comes with a laid-in limitation page at end of the book. Very light toning to the pages. Translated into English by Walter Owen. "The poem, written in a Spanish that evokes rural Argentina, is widely seen as the pinnacle of the genre of "gauchesque" poetry (poems centered on the life of the gaucho, written in a style known as payadas) and a touchstone of Argentine national identity. It has appeared in hundreds of editions and has been translated into over 70 languages.". Limited Edition. Leather. Very Good -/No Dj as Issued. Octavo.
