The Institution [of Naval Architects?], London, England, 1885. First Edition. Acceptable. Jenkins article is 75 pages. He was a notable advocate of the Stirling Engine. Spine is reinforced with paper tape. All edges rubbed and title page cracked at hinge. Withdrawn from the Cooper Union Library. Stamp on verso of title page and last plate.3 folding plates:Plate #1 is diagrams, seems to be incomplte. Plate #2, drawings of seven Gas and Caloric Engine designs including, Stirling (lst and 2nd patents), Bailey, Buchett, Jenkin & Janesmoon, Rider, and Robinson's hot air engine, Crossley's Otto and Clerk. This plate is neatly torn at the 3rd fold out, but complete. Plate #3 contains charts of experiments, primarily Clerk & Crossley. Essay on The Steam Engine by Cowper seems to be missing a folding plate. Also contains: The General Theory of Thermo-Dynamics by Professor Osborne Reynolds; On the Generation of Steam and the Thermo-Dynamic Problems Involved by William Anderson; The Steam Engine by Edward Cowper; Compressed Air and Other Refrigerating Machinery by Alexander Kirk; and Heat Action of Explosives by Captain Andrew Noble. A sound, useful copy of a scarce book.
