In the first few pages of the story, The Game and the Candle, the two brothers John and Robert were having a conversation about having little money and that the money they have will last for only six months. Then they have to decide whether to go their Aunt Theodora and Aunt Rose to seek help from their difficulties. It seems as if, these two young men have lost their parents and they have no one to fend for themselves. They thought of searching for not a small amount of money for everyday living but a huge amount of wealth and they both agreed to find a fortune within the period of six months before they lose all their money.
