London: Stanley Paul & Co., Ltd, 1925. First edition. Cloth. Good. 12" by 9.5". H. Willebeek Le Mair. First UK edition of this stylized illustrated book of charming children's stories. The first trade edition of the work. Published the same year as a limited edition of five hundred copies. Highly illustrated with 12 coloured plates and coloured illustration to the front cover. Collated complete. Written by A. A. Milne, the author of Winnie-the-Pooh. Milne was also known as a playwright and lieutenant in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in the First World War. Illustrated by Henriette Willebeek le Mair, a Dutch illustrator known for her work on children's books. In original blue cloth binding. Externally, generally smart with rubbing to the extremities, resulting in slight loss to the cloth. The occasional pen and pencil marks to rear board and pencil marks to front board. Slight bumping to head and tail of the spine. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with scattered spots. Child has written their name in pencil on the first few pages. Good
