About This Item

Woodcut panorama [10.5 x 219.2 cm], crudely hand-coloured in sweeps and dabs consisting of four sheets conjoined, linen backed; concertina-folding into untitled cloth covers folding down to [11.6 x 10 cm].

Rare chapbook panorama illustrating the funeral procession of the Duke of Wellington.

The procession advances from [Horse Guards, Whitehall?] to St. Paul's Cathedral, both places crudely represented. Refs. beneath the panorama image: 'Infantry', 'Cavalry', 'Artillery', 'Chelsea Pensioners', 'Trumpets and Kettle Drums', 'Banner of Wellesley', 'Barons, Judges, &c.', 'Earls, Marquesses, Dukes', 'The Lord Mayor', 'His Royal Highness Prince Albert', 'Prince Albert's Attendants', 'Herald', 'Trumpeters', 'The Great Banner', 'The Coronet', borne by Clarenceux King of Arms', 'The Funeral Car, Drawn by Twelve Horses', 'The Chief Mourner', 'Friends of the Deceased', 'The late Duke's Horse', and 'Her Majesty's Carriage.'

The imprint would have appeared on the now lost wrapper and stylistically the design is very redolent of Thomas Goode's street literature, though no other copy appears to be extant to confirm this attribution.
