This is a very hard-to-come-by original Masonic Monitor book that was printed in 1864. Although two editions followed it in 1867 and 1870, this is the original 1st edition. I have searched for another one of these with the same covers and spine and have found zero offered at this time; needless to say, it's a rare bird. Although it may appear at first glance to be a book on Masonry, I can assure you that it delves MUCH deeper than that. It contains passages on other secret societies, including the Templars, and The Knights of Malta, and even discusses the mysterious Arc of the covenant. This is not only a beautiful and rare book but is also historically important, as most of these have been lost to the sands of time. I would snag this one before it's gone.
Daniel Edgar Sickles (October 20, 1819 – May 3, 1914) was an American politician, author, soldier, and diplomat.
The overall condition of this book is excellent for how old it is. It does have some normal shelf wear and age. The binding is solid, all pages hold very well, and everything is perfectly in its place. The pages are naturally age toned but are in good condition. A few of the introductory pages have some small margin chips but not near the text. A few pages will have age spots, small stains, and light reading use. The gilt to the spine is in very good condition. For a book that was printed while Abraham Lincoln was the President... I would say it's been VERY well preserved.
