Collated, complete.The work of English historian and traveller William Hepworth Dixon, who was active in organizing London's Great Exhibition of 1851.This work has been praised for its information on the Russian military, the Kozaks, and Russian pilgrims following the Crimean War.With chapters on communism, dissenters, the secret polite, and religion.With newspaper obituaries of the author pasted to the front endpapers of volume I. In half morocco bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Gilt detailing to back strip. Significant rubbing to board perimeters, with light rubbing to back strip head and tail. Head of front joint of volume I starting and a touch tender, with head of rear joint starting and firmly held. Volume II front hinge strained and firmly held. Newspaper clippings to front endpapers of volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with only the odd spot. Good
