About This Item
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1943. First Edition. Octavo. 147 pages. Richter's novel is amplified with a rich picture of the Palatine German in the era of the Revolutionary War. He tells the story of how they along with the Alsatians and Swiss came to farm in Pennsylvania. A very rich novel by an author who was raised in the area, has studied it and captured a fascinating part of what the Pennsylvania Dutch called their "little Declaration of Independence" and their development of the pioneer rifle. Bound in light brown cloth lettered and decorated in dark brown, spine lettered and decorated in dark brown only minor light wear to edges, near fine in a very good pictorial dust jacket with toning around the edges some chipping to spine ends and a small piece torn away on the rear panel.
