About This Item
One-third of the "Great Triumvirate" that included Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun, this powerhouse conservative Democratic statesman served New Hampshire in Congress (1813-17, 1823-27), Massachusetts in the Senate (1827-41, 1845-50), and Presidents Harrison, Tyler and Fillmore as Secretary of State (1841-43, 1850-52). Bold "Danl Webster / U.S. Senate" in brown ink on a manila colored 4" X 1 3/4" slip clearly removed from an envelope, n.p., n.y. Near fine. A handsome example, accompanied by an unsigned contemporary heavy stock 6½" X 120" steel-engraved head-and-shoulders portrait of Webster. Very good. Bit of foxing along the top, but the likeness is bold and appealing.
