Philadelphia: Thomas, Cowperthwaite & Co., 1848. This map is from the 1848 edition of A NEW UNIVERSAL ATLAS CONTAINING MAPS OF THE VARIOUS EMPIRES. The atlas was based primarily on the H. S. Tanner UNIVERSAL ATLAS, the rights to which were purchased by Mitchell from Carey & Hart. The early Mitchell maps are distinguished by their vivid hand-coloring and attractive decorated borders. They are among the most sought after ante-bellum maps published in the United States. This map is guaranteed to be authentic and more than 170 years old. It is in very good condition: clean and bright, with some toning; There are two 1/4 inch closed tears in the margin on one edge--far away fron the image.. Original. Single Sheet. Very Good. New York 1894. The Irish National Invincible Publishing Co.
Very scarce US edition of this book on The National Invincibles which was a splinter group of the Irish Republican Brotherhood and best known for carrying out what became known as the Phoenix Park Murders in Dublin in 1882.
Book was written by a leading member of the Invincibles and was first published in USA as a revolutionary document. The later UK edition of 1894 was toned down for the British market.
Book is sound. Boards somewhat faded with some discolouring to lower part of rear board. Head and tail of spine showing sign of slight wear. Corners somewhat bumped with a tiny tear at one corner. Lower fore edge of text block is stained, perhaps water spill, with staining spreading to some leaves but this is not greatly significant.
A strong solid copy.
Provenance: First blank contains the name and address of previous owner, Sean O Lúing, who was Head of Translation section in the Irish Parliament. He was a poet, linguist and produced a… Read More

Minor inscriptions in pencil on first blank dated 1906.
A lovely copy. Includes works such as On Baile's Strand, In The Seven Woods and The Shadowy Waters with a Preface by Yeats dated 18 May 1906.

Unlisted Publisher, 1861. Map. Very Good. Map size - 7.75"x9". Leaf size - 9"x10.5". Clean with some folds; probably from a book. Very short closed tear at right margin; small piece of tape on reverse. Uncommon Civil War map showing the Battle of Port Royal. Publisher unknown, but probably contemporary. The Battle of Port Royal was one of the earliest amphibious operations of the American Civil War, in which a United States Navy fleet and United States Army expeditionary force captured Port Royal Sound, South Carolina, between Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina, on November 7, 1861. The sound was guarded by two forts on opposite sides of the entrance, Fort Walker on Hilton Head Island to the south and Fort Beauregard on Phillip's Island to the north.

This Book is in Good Condition. The Dust Jacket (protected by a Dust Jacket Protector) has some Small Scratches (mostly to the Rear Cover) and some Edgewear, including Small Tears (1/4" long or smaller), Small Creases, and Slight Chipping at the Head and Base of the Spine and some Bumping to the Fore Edge Corners, which has caused a Few Small Tears (1/4" long or smaller) and associated Small Creases, but the Dust Jacket has No Stains or Foxing. The Hardcover Boards have Slight Corner Bumping but No Tears, Creases, Stains, or Any Major Damage. The Binding is Strong and Intact.
