About This Item

The items are presented in a double-sided glazed frame, with the signed items on one side, the ephemera on the other. The Vincent photograph is a deckle-edged publicity shot (200 × 148 mm, SP422); the signed Cochran item (93 × 128 mm) is matted with a printed portrait (147 mm in diameter). The ephemera comprise two colour photocopies: the front cover of the souvenir programme for their English tour, and a ticket stub to one of the concerts. External dimensions 590 × 243 mm; all items are in excellent condition. The programme was produced for the English tour of the two American rock and roll stars. 'Larry Parnes set up a tour, mostly two houses a night, from January 24 to April 16, 1960, a combination of complete weeks in the big cities and one-night stands elsewhere. He completed the bill with his own artists, Billy Fury, Joe Brown, Vince Eager and Tony Sheridan, as and when they were available' ('The Edwardian Teddy Boy', online).

After the final show at the Bristol Hippodrome, on Saturday 16 April, the vehicle in which Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran were travelling to London in was involved in a serious accident. Cochran died at the scene; Vincent was badly injured, sustaining lasting injuries to an already permanently damaged leg that would shorten his career and affect him for the rest of his life (he died in 1971). Provenance: the personal collection of David Lovatt, proprietor of Bank Street Records, Adelaide (1985-1994). He purchased the signed items over the counter at Bank Street Records from an English lady fan who had gone to the concert (and had later emigrated to Adelaide).
