About This Item

New York: W.W. Norton, 1962. 75 pp, 7 3/4" H. By the author of the Mary Poppins books. Monotone illustrations throughout. Three small boys are taken to St. Paul's Cathedral for a Chistmas Eve service shortly after the end of World War II. They have been told to each bring a toy they no longer want to donate to poor children, but eventually persuade themselves that they can't part with them. After listening to the Carol of the Friendly Beasts, one asks if there were no gifts to the Child from the wild animals and the story unfolds from there. Very light edge wear, partial ghost sticker mark on rear board. Dust jacket has been price-clipped, has a few small edge tears and very small edge chips, browning to inside surface and top to edge of flaps, fading to spine and hinge area colour - lettering still very legible.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. Illus. by Thomas Bewick..
