Four interesting and amusing documents of this eighteenth century lawsuit explaining the case in great detail and from the points of view of both plaintifs. A short summary: This regards the inheritance of a lawyer Me Delamotte who leaves most of his estate to his niece Dlle Lazare (or Lazarre) Delamotte. With the exception of his library composed of all the books that are in Dijon and Mont-Saint-Jean. He stipulates that he wants them to go to a male lawyer in the family (if there is one). Mlle Delamotte claims she is led to believe by the curator that she is free to sell the library, actually she is even encourgaged to sell it so that the books will keep their value. She then takes the necessary steps, including the preparation of a catalogue, and announces the auction. Enter Pierre Pelletier, married to another niece, who thinks his son has a right to the library as he one day wishes to become a lawyer. Result: a drawn-out lawsuit.
