Some erasure of previous owner's ink stamp on front free end paper, remainder mark bottom page edges, dust jacket shows edge wear, small spot on FFEP ; A bright, solid book, DJ in protective Mylar sleeve, unclipped. ; B&W Illustrations; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 256 pages; "in all there have been four Ark Royals, three of them aircraft carriers. The first Ark Royal was a 16th century galleon, the flagship of the Lord High Admiral of England, Lord Howard of Effingham. The next Ark Royal, intended as a merchant ship, was converted into a sea-plane carrier to serve at Dardanelles and the Gallipoli landings. The third Ark Royal was perhaps the best known and best loved of all the ships in WWII. She was sunk off Gibraltar having played a crucial part in the sinking of the Bismarck The fourth Ark Royal was launched in 1950." .
