About This Item

London:: Noel Douglas,, 1928.. First edition.. Hardcover. Very Good. x, 290pp. A thorough account, in fluent English, and with much detail, including an extensive bibliography and index at the back. Library label to front pastedown, and a red library stamp to the front free endpaper, with a smaller one to the foot of pages 1, 101, & 259. Upper corners of the last dozen pages are slightly bent. The pages are otherwise clean and unmarked. 22x14cms, firm, in the original binding of blue cloth: firm, upper board bright, lower board has purple marks (spilled ink?), and the spine is faded, with faint stains and a pale rectangle near the foot where a label was removed. The author was a notable journalist and author, educated in the West, but deeply involved with Chinese politics. A good copy of a title now scarce.

About Chapel Books

I sell books from a large disused Chapel next to the village duck pond, where I have lived about 40 years: just inland from Dunwich and between Southwold and Aldeburgh. I open 7 days a week, 12-5.
