Brice's Crossroads was a Civil War battle won by the Confederate Army. It demonstrated the military genius of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest who out-maneuvered a Union force twice the size of his. The battle duplicated Hannibal's tactics at Cannae. Edwin Bearss is the retired chief historian of the National Park Service and an expert on Civil War battles.
