About This Item

Duckworth, London, 1925. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Fair. introduction by author. Dark red coloured cloth covered boards with self embossed decoration to the front panel edge; with embossed gilt coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Plain text dustwrapper dark blue coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Quoting from the introduction page XV " ... the aim of what I have written is to treat art as a language on which the two main dialects fare form and colour, and in this way, by examination nought really perfect intelligible records, to add the testimony of art to such evidences of the characters and motives of man as we already possess." Softening and fading – commensurate with loss of dustwrapper – of the back strip edges; bumping and rubbing of the corners. There is a follow in the uniform light tanning of the text block edges and pages. A previous owner had placed various newspaper clippings and other ephemera between the front board and free front end page, and this has caused age tanning. Of interest though, is a letter loosely inserted to the previous owner from a member / staff member of the Museum of By Arts of Houston (it is on their letterhead) apologising that the book was indeed most useful. The lower page edge has been incompletely when page and VIII and there are signs that this has also occurred between pages 247 to pages 256. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and back strip edges. The dustwrapper edges are creased and somewhat torn stop rubbing of the panels and you marks are also present. Second impression. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [6], VII - XV, [1], 294, [2] pages,. Deckled Lower Edge (rough cut). Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Art & Design; Art Theory; Inventory No: 0127766. .
