London: Seeey, Burnside, and Seeley, 1845. 12mo (7 x 4.25 in). Seventeenth edition. Text in single column Roman font, divided into twenty-two chapters. Charles Bridges (1794-1869) was a prominent member of the evangelical party in the Anglican church, and author of many popular devotional and theological treatises including this one. A lovely fore-edge painting with a view of the Thames River with St. Paul's Cathedral in the background.
Pagination: [2],xii,514,[4] pp.
Binding: Bound in grained dark blue paneled morocco, with both boards embellished with heavy gold-leaf work and a central lozenge tooled in blind. Hubbed spine with six elaborately gilt-tooled compartments and the words "Bridges on Psalm CXIX" lettered in gilt. All edges gilt.
Condition: Internally crisp, clean, and bright. Slightly splayed, with joints lightly rubbed and gilt to spine lightly faded. Gilt to edges and forge-edge painting remain clear and vibrant.
