About This Item
New York, NY: Avon Books, 1990. 1st Paperback Edition 1st Printing. Soft cover. New/None as Issued. Text/BRAND NEW. 1990 First Avon paperback printing. Illustrated soft cover/VG w/trace edge wear. Novel by Edward Paul Abbey (1927 - 1989) written shortly before his death. Best known for The Monkey Wrench Gang and the non-fiction work Desert Solitaire. This novel is loosely based on his own life. Portions of this tale were first published elsewhere. Abandoned by his 3rd wife for a computer science professor, anti-hero Henry Holyoak Lightcap, penniless, shoots his refrigerator (that symbol of man's progress), quits Arizona to return to his ancestral roots in the Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania. Traveling in an old pick-up with his dying dog & memories, he calls on old friends enroute, visits an Indian reservation, and many out-of-the-way bars, all the while reviewing triumphs & follies of his life. Humorously and artfully told reflections.
