About This Item
Harper and Row, 1984. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good . 9x6x1. A short tear and some edgewear to dustjacket. Combines theory and practice in more than two hundred recipes for homestyle dishes and gourmet creations that include dozens of impromptu preparations. Barbara Kafka (1933 - 2018) was a cookbook author and a columnist for Gourmet, Family Circle and Vogue magazines, where she recommended techniques for the microwave or gas and electric ovens that were unpretentious and often unconventional. In addition to being a writer, Ms. Kafka was a teaching colleague of James Beard, the dean of American cuisine, and a consultant who helped conceive menus for Windows on the World (at the World Trade Center), the Four Seasons, Gotham Bar and Grill and other restaurants in New York and elsewhere. The James Beard Foundation bestowed upon her the Cookbook Hall of Fame award as well as two Lifetime Achievement Awards.
