Ignazio Silone (pseudonym for Secondino Tranquilli, 1900-1978) was nominated for the Nobel Prize ten times; he was awarded the Jerusalem Prize in 1969. A founder of the Italian Communist Party, he was later expelled due to his opposition to Stalin. During World War II he was a Resistance leader and agent for the OSS. Italian novel of a village that fought fascist Rome. This is the well known Italian author's first novel.
