About This Item

New York, USA: Simon and Schuster , 1979. 1st Thus 1st Impression. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 1st hardback edition (previously published, in the same year, in paperback). 340pp. Quarter-bound in black cloth over green paper-covered boards with silver titles on spine. 8vo. Boards gently rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends. Text block edges lightly toned. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket, a little rubbed and rounded on corners and spine ends, faint scratch mark on front, a couple of minor small marks on verso. Dust jacket states book club edition on inner front flap, as called for. Dust jacket now protected in an archival quality Mylar wrapper fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. Author's first novel. First published in paperback, such was the book's popularity that the publisher rushed out a hard cover edition; in the rush some copies, it is rumoured, were sent for book club release and were issued to market prior to the publisher's own issue. Some of these copies have the Simon and Schuster logo stamped onto the upper text block edge; this copy does not but the dust jacket states 'Book Club Edition'. As the author's first novel, the print run was small and these true hardback firsts (preceding a similar publication in the UK) are both sought after and hard to find.
