Albany. 1843. Two volumes. [4],xii,484pp. plus seventy-two uncolored plates; [4],572pp. plus ninety uncolored plates (one folding). Engraved titlepage and letterpress titlepage in each volume. Thick quartos. Original cloth, stamped in blind and gilt, expertly rebacked with original gilt backstrips laid down. Clean internally. Overall, a very good set. SABIN 53788. MEISEL II, pp.614. TAXONOMIC LITERATURE 14.758. PRITZEL 1973. BM (NAT HIST), p.2125. Torrey's meticulous description of the flora of New York state was issued as part of the NATURAL HISTORY OF NEW YORK, published between 1842 and 1894. Hundreds of plants are described, and more than 160 are illustrated in the attractive lithographed plates. Almost all the plate were produced by the Endicott firm. A handsome set of a work usually found in terrible condition.
