About This Item

Toronto, Canada: The Musson Book Company, 1912. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. First edition (1912) of the most complete collection of E. Pauline Johnson's poems published in her lifetime. Also known as Tekahionwake, E. Pauline Johnson was of half Mohawk ancestry, and one of Canada's premier poest in her lifetime - not to mention one of its most famous female indigenous writers. This book is found in its later reprints easily, but first editions are rare. It contains the contents of her earlier poetic publications, and was the last book she published in her lifetime, making this the most complete volume of her poetry produced under her supervision.... Book in Very Good condition. No dust jacket. Cover in sky blue cloth good; shows some light rubbing and wear at corners and sun fading on spine. Name of former owner on front endpaper with date 'May 1914.' No other marks noted in text. Poems handsomely laid out on deckled pages, with gilt top-edge. Acid pages yellowed by time. Binding strong. All in all a fine copy of this rare first edition. Family-owned bookshop in Steubenville, Ohio: BookMarx Bookstore. Books shipped within 24 hours.
