About This Item

The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:

Noah Webster: A pen name of Bill Knox. Knox wrote under his own name and three pen names. He wrote two detective series under his own name, the Thane and Moss series (25 books) and the Webb Carrick series (15). There were three other series which he published under the name of Robert MacLeod, totaling another 22 books. He also wrote 12 stand alone novels. Knox died in 1999. Thisis the tenth of eleven books in the Jonathan Gaunt series, which was also published under the title The Money Mountain.

Barbara Paul: Barbara Paul is an American writer of mystery and science fiction. She created two series, the longest of which was the Marian Larch series with seven books. She has published a total of 31 novels and short story collections, as well as contributing to at least that many anthologies as well. This is the third of three in the Nightingale series.

Mark Hebden: A man with a varied career, Hebden was a sailor, journalist, airman, travel courier, cartoonist and history teacher, while still finding time to write about 80 novels. His one significant series featured quirky Inspector Pel, about whom Hebden wrote seventeen novels. That series was continued by his daughter after his death in 1991. This is the eighth Pel novel.
