About This Item

Paris, France Le Livre de Poche , 1961. Paperback Twenty-five pages show MARKINGS IN THE TEXT. Else, Very Good in Wraps: shows light wear to the extremities; mild rubbing to the panels; the text pages show the expected tanning, due to aging; former owner's name at the inside of the front cover; soiling to the fore-edge; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Clearly flawed, but remains a handsome copy in overall appearance, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing mild wear and minor flaws - and of course the pen work. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 12mo.(6.5 x 4.35 x 0.75 inches),. 249 pages. Présenté (Preface) par Jean-Paul Sartre. Language: French. Weight: 6 ounces. Mass Market Paperback.

So much has been written about these poems - and about this book as a cycle - that the only further help on the subject which I can offer to my fellow readers is a quotation from one of my teachers: "The Twentieth Century began in 1857." He didn't explain, and he didn't have to.
