London: Richard Bentley, 1832. Leather. Good. 7" by 4.5". None. A second edition of William Godwin's bildungsroman novel, in a contemporary leather binding. First published in 1805, this novel tells the tale of Casimir Fleetwood and tells the consequences of the protagonist's natural education.William Godwin (1756-1836) was an English novelist and journalist, considered an early proponent of utilitarianism and anarchism. He was a prolific novelist, known for the novels 'Things as they Are' and 'Cloudesley: a Tale'. He was married to the feminist author Mary Wollstonecraft and the father of Mary Shelley, author of 'Frankenstein' and wife of Percy Bysshe Shelley.Bound by Wardley & Arnold, of Guernsey.Illustrated with a full frontispiece and a vignette illustrated title page.This edition has been revised and corrected by the author, making it the second edition. In a half crushed morocco binding. Externally a trifle rubbed, with all leather corners lacking. Some rubbing to the spine resulting in a little loss to the leather, with a slight chip to the head of the front joint, as well as general wear to the boards and bumping to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with just the occasional spot. Good
