This copy is signed by author James Bradley directly on half-title page; James Bradley's loving tribute to his own father and to the five other men, who along with Navy corpsman John Bradley, raised the flag at Iwo Jima during WWII in 1945. It is also the story behind the famous photograph and the story of the heroic battle for the Pacific's most crucial island Iwo Jima. Bradley follows the young Marines through battle and its aftermath, some going home and being hailed a hometown hero. He told his son that the only real heroes were the boys who were not coming home from that bloody battle.
