Originally published in 1912 by Grafton Publishing Company. Brown cloth boards with silver titles along spine and front cover. Small illustration on title page of man reading with his feet up on chair. Minor shelfwear: light rubbing along edges and covers, light fading along cloth board edges and spine. Light tanning along page edges. Tightly bound with clean and crisp pages. No marks. Volume is in Very Good condition..

Jeffers first book, originally self-published 500 copies in 1912, this is a re-issue by Cayucos Books. Small erasure on front endpaper upper right corner and the previous owner has written "purchased in Carmel August 12, 1971" on rear pastedown otherwise unmarked.

Los Angeles, Grafton Publishing Company, 1912, first edition, first printing.. This slim hardcover, the Author's First Book, was issued without a dust jacket, Jeffers paid to have the book published in an edition of 500 copies, with the vast majority of those sold to a used book store, his authorial credit uses his full name (later shortened to just Robinson Jeffers). Very good minus with general soiling and age, Holmes Book Company of Los Angeles stamp to front free endpaper, the word "Apples" on the spine label is mostly obscured, the front cover label has tiny chipping around the edges, not affecting any of the text or the decoration.

The first edition of the poets first book, a vanity publication, printed at Jeffers' own expense in an edition of 500 copies, of which 480 were sold by the printer to a San Francisco used book store. A fragile little book in exceptionally good condition. Mild wear to paper spine label [no loss] and several small scrapes to front board, else a clean, square, unmarked copy. No previous ownership marks or book-plates. Housed in a custom slipcase with folding inner sleeve and black leather label ruled and lettered in gold on spine. A near fine copy in a fine slipcase of a very scarce Jeffers title. [Alberts 13]. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Not Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Privately Printed.
