New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1939. First Edition 1st Printing. Cloth. Good/No Jacket. Elizabeth Farrand George. FIRST PRINTING of First USA Edition. LACKING the rare dust jacket. Original red cloth with gilt lettering spine. The spine cloth is faded and stained near the top with that stain extending to the upper rear cover. The spine lettering has darkened to brown. Spine ends are frayed with loss at the tips. The word, "morphine", penned on the top of the front pastedown, otherwise there are no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, pages are not stained or marked, no foxing, solid binding, complete with all pages and photos/maps, no restorations. Book measures 227mm tall x 147mm, and has 381 pages, 48 b/w photos, 2 EP maps, 1 chart, 7 appendices. USA first edition has more photos than the first UK edition. USA edition has b/w photo frontispiece and 47 b/w photos on 15 double-sided leaves. UK edition has b/w photo frontispiece and 33 b/w photos on 15 double-sided leaves. Both have the same (and same number) chapter heading illustrations. PHOTOS ARE OF ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
