About This Item
Pan: London, 1978 0330296043. First edition. First printing of first UK paperback edition. Front endpage repaired. Creasing to covers and spine. Otherwise a surprisingly tight reading copy. 756 pages. A selection by the writer of 63 of his best short stories over five decades of his life. It is still not fashionable to see him as the equal of Hemingway in the arena of the short story, but I certainly prefer his best work in this field to that of Scott Fitzgerald, for example. .
