Hardback, 1880, fourth edition (fifth thousand), published by published by Williams and Norgate, London, xxii + 586 pages + 16-page author and publisher catalogue at rear. This books forms volume I of the larger 'A System of Synthetic Philosophy' set.
Octavo/8vo, measures around 8 7/8" by 6" by 1 3/4". Brown cloth binding with faux leather texture, embossed detail to boards with gilt crest to front boards and gilt lettering to spine. Marking and scuffing to binding, discolouration around edges and to spine. Signs of wear, rubbing at edges and on hinges, some tearing at edges. Bumped corners. Slackness and strain to binding, cracking to inner hinges and cracking and tearing to binding a little further in which means pages 65-80 are only loosely attached at base. Strain elsewhere. Page edges browned, scuffed and a bit marked with slight foxing. Some marking and foxing to endpapers. Gift presentation and library labels to front board, previous owner name to front free endpaper. Occasional foxing and marking throughout but no underlining, marginalia, etc. See pictures for further information.
