About This Item
1944. HENRY, Robert Selph. "First with the Most" Forrest. Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1944. 1st ed. 558 pp., frontis., plates, maps. Orig. cloth. Foxing and toning to the plates and adjacent leaves, else a near fine copy warmly inscribed by Henry. Nevins calls this a "carefully documented, detailed study of Forrest's wartime campaigns" Nevins II, p.62. Eicher writes that this is largely concerted with Forrest's wartime activities and notes that the "highlights of coverage include discussions of Fort Donelson, Shiloh, the Tennessee campaigns of 1862 and 1863, the defense against Streight's Raid, Chickamauga, Fort Pillow, Brice's Crossroads, Spring Hill and Frankin, and the shattering of Forrest's command before Wilson's Selma raid" - Eicher 217.
