Genuine full-leather burgundy binding with bright gold decoration and two raised spine-bands, all edges gilt, silk moire end-papers, ribbon bookmark, nice color frontis painting of Hemingway by Peter Caras and color illustrations throughout by Bernard Fuchs, this copy has a tight as if unread binding and is in new condition except for one minor flaw: the four bottom corners have a tiny area of faint white smudging, (please see our photo). Synopsis
The Fifth Column and the First Forty-Nine Stories is an anthology of writings by Ernest Hemingway published in 1938. It contains Hemingway's only full-length play, The Fifth Column, and 49 short stories. Many of the stories of the collection exist in other collections, including In Our Time, Men Without Women, Winner Take Nothing, and The Snows of Kilimanjaro.
