I am engaged to dine at the Merchant Taylors' Hall, and Lady Roberts has promised to go there also. It is very kind of you and Sir Henry asking us after very bad behaviour... I was admiring Sir Henry's likeness in the Royal Academy the other day, and was wishing I could afford to have my portrait taken... nothing would give me greater pleasure than to sit to so rising an Artist...", 3 sides 8vo., United Services Club headed paper, 16th May Roberts, hero of the Relief of Kandahar, won the Victoria Cross in the Indian Mutiny. Rawlinson was a senior British Army officer in the First World War who commanded the Fourth Army of the British Expeditionary Force at the battles of the Somme (1916) and Amiens (1918) as well as the breaking of the Hindenburg Line (1918). He commanded the Indian Army from 1920 to 1925.
