About This Item

Roslyn, NY Walter J. Black, Inc., 1938. Hardcover Reprint Edition [1938]. Very Good: shows very light wear to extremities; just a hint of spine lean; the tinted top edge is very lightly sun faded. Binding secure; text clean. The titles at the back strip show a little wear, but remain bold and clearly legible. Small finger smudge at the rear panel. Despite noted flaws, remains a clean, sturdy, presentable reading copy. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. 361pp. Cream Quarter Cloth with Red cloth over boards; Blue, Red & Gilt titles and designs at the back strip. This Edition by Walter J. Black, Inc. states that it was published in 1938, but we believe it is more of the early 1960s vintage. Hardback: No DJ 'as issued'. Twenty-eight wagons packed with families, supplies, and tough-as-nails Texans circle up and fight for their lives against relentless hostile Indian attacks in this action-packed adventure from "the greatest novelist of the American West."

Reviews

On Apr 10 2020, a reader said:
This is the story of the freight system that carried goods from St. Louis to Santa Fe, NM in the mid 19th Century, and the perils and dangers they faced as they crossed Indian country to deliver their merchandise. An historical novel with real people who lived during the period who appear or are mentioned as the story line progresses. A fine read.
