About 1 " of top of title page has been cut out leaving only "Of the Church" showing and remainder of title page with publisher, etc is intact. Restoration is with original leather superimposed over the new with gold diamond inset retained. Pages evenly cut after book survived a fire in the 1970's. "The fifth booke is concerning the divers, degrees, ordrs, and calling of those men, to whom, the government of the Church is committed. consisting of 59 chapters. Appendix has three parts (part 1 is 133 pg, part 2 is 62 pages, and part 3, 47 pages) contayning a defenfe of such partes and paffages of the former foure bookes, as have beene eyther excepted againft, or wrefted to the maintainance of rfemifh errors, divided into three parts" Top of title page has been cut. Pages in very good condition with no marks or damage. May be errors in paging.Richard Field (1561-1616) was an English ecclesiological theologian associated with the work of Richard Hooker. Field's principal work, Of the Church, Five Bookes, was first published in London in 1606, printed by Humfrey Lownes and dedicated to the archbishop of Canterbury, Richard Bancroft.
