Robert Hardwicke., 1866. 1st. Ed.. pp.xi, 411 with b/w. illus. 8vo. Historical name (dated 1866) and then later �Grandfather� written to ffep. Name to half-title. Faint, scattered foxing to fore-edge of text block, o/w. contents in fine condition. Knock to top right corner of boards, which o/w. are in near fine condition. �This work by Smith is an important source of evidence for the fern historian. The bulk of the work is a continuation of his previous catalogues of ferns but the important addition was a lengthy chapter on the introduction of exotic ferns into Britain�, (Hall and Rickard).
