About This Item

G. M. Davison; and by G. & C. & H. Carvill, NY, 1830. 4th Edition, Enlarged and Improved.. Hardcover. Very Good. 16mo, hardcover, no dj. Vg condition. Original quarter leather binding, leather still supple, gilt spine title still fully legible. Lacks rear endpaper. Binding secure. Contents age-toned and moderately foxed. All eight plates called for in the index are present, as is a ninth plate, of the Baggs Hotel, in Utica, NY. Pencil notation on obverse of front endpaper, ‘Capt. Caleb W. Merritt, North Greenwich’, apparently not in his hand, but in that of a descendent. Captain Merritt was a nautical, not military captain, who owned and sailed commercial sloops primarily in Long Island Sound, before the Civi War. 434 pp. No map was issued with this very early American guidebook.
