About This Item
London: George Newnes. 1898. Second edition. Second edition. Two volumes. Publisher's original green cloth illustrated and with titles in gilt, red and white to the upper board and spine. All edges marbled. Illustrated with over 200 illustrations and folding map in back of volume one. A lovely very near fine set, the bindings square and firm, the cloth, silver and gilt bright and without fading. The contents, with toning to the half title and terminal leaves are otherwise clean throughout. The map at the rear of volume one has a closed very small closed tear at the hinge without loss, and a few foxing spots to the folds. A very attractive example. An account of the Norwegian explorer's 1893-96 Fram expedition to the North Pole, a classic work of polar exploration, superbly illustrated.
