About This Item

Toronto: HarperFlamingo Canada. Very Good+ in Near Fine dust jacket. 2002. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. 0002000288 . DJ and boards show very light shelf wear. Remainder mark on bottom page edges. ; A bright, solid book, dustjacket in Mylar, unclipped. B&W photos. ; B&W Illustrations; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 398 pages; "One of Canada's most popular writers over the past 50 years, Mowat has been both a comical exaggerator and a heated critic of his subjects, many of which derive from his affinity to animals, and alarm about the conditions of Canada's Arctic peoples. Since most of his topics emerge from personal experience--his classic The Dog Who Wouldn't Be (1957) risibly exalts his boyhood canine Mutt--this biography recounts Mowat's search for source material." (Booklist) He is known for changing his description of personal experiences to give them a comical spin, i.e the scene in Never Cry Wolf where he tries to mimic wolf behavior in marking his territory. Though, not always strictly truthful, generations of readers can attest to the fact that, in his lighter accounts, he entertained the reader and in his historical accounts, he informed the reader without boring them. .

About Ainsworth Books

Ainsworth Books was for many years a bricks and mortar store in Vancouver, BC. When we acquired the store, we moved to a location in Delta. After three years we moved the stock home and started operation as an online, by appointment only operation. I have worked with books my whole adult life and enjoy giving recommendations.
