About This Item
BEAUTIFULLY PRINTED IN COLORS
[TODMORDEN]. Farewell to Todmorden; To a Lady, by a Friend. 8vo double-column broadside, 7 ¼ x 6 ½". Todmorden: Walton, printer, n.d. [ca. 1832-1840?].
Unrecorded? A beautifully produced anonymously written poem, certainly privately printed, occasioned by bidding farewell to Todmorden, a market town and civil parish in the confluence of three steep-sided Pennine valleys, 17 miles from Manchester, Calderdale, West Yorkshire. The poem is set within a mirror-shaped design of embossed gold, incorporating the colors green, blue and red, all within a embossed gold leafy scrollwork design, green, blue and red floral designs in the corners. "Farewell to thee, beautiful valley,/…Should I never again behold thee,/ My spirit is bound with a spell,/ While I live I can never forget thee,/Thou beautiful valley-farewell." Not in COPAC of OCLC, which records a number of Walton imprints, almost all from 1832 to 1840, with a smattering later. Fine. 82573
