About This Item
New York, NY: Macmillan, 1938. Book. Fine. Cloth. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. New York, NY, Macmillan, 1938. First edition. 8vo. Burgundy cloth with gilt lettering and artwork embossed on spine and front board, endpapers decorated with Victorian period scene, front piece features a portrait of Fanny Kemble by Thomas Sully, 387 pp. One of the most fascinating women of her generation, Fenny Kemble well deserves to be called "a passionate Victorian". Her life, from 1908 to 1893, covered almost a century, the whole Victorian Era, and, as she had a genius for friendship, her circle included almost every well known figure of the day, both in England and America. The author writes with a humor, a warmth and a spirit which make Fanny so alive, one can scarcely believe that it was over 100 years ago when she was at the height of her success. The story is true; all persons are real; there are no imaginary characters, conversations or events. Dust jacket has slight wear at top and bottom of spine. Appears unread or gently read. Fine in a very good dust jacket, protected by a mylar cover..
