The protagonist, Kelvin, was freed from his strict Calvinist upbringing through discovering Nietzsche in his hometown library. He travels to swinging-sixties London to become a successful television interviewer and newspaper columnist. Gray explores his cynicism towards religion, the media and the imperial British centre. In the publisher's original binding, with unclipped dustwrapper. Gray is probably best known for his novel 'Lanark' which was regarded as a landmark of Scottish fiction.
