London: Sampson Low, Marston, Low, and Searle, 1872. First Edition Thus. Cloth. Very Good. E. V. B. [Eleanor Vere Boyle]. Quarto. Bound in red cloth with ornate black and gilt decoration, gilt title and black rule to spine, bevelled edges, all edges gilt, black endpapers. Colour wood-engraved frontispiece and plates, signed "Leighton Bros.", with protective printed interleaves. Wood-engraved initial letters and printer's ornaments. Lacking one plate (11 of 12). Minute rubbing to cloth at head, heel and corners, as well as edges of spine, some light dust soil overall to cloth, a few minor spots of darker soil, some light foxing to endpapers, a few creased corners and spots of speckles or smudges to interior, plates have offset a faint tan to printed guards only.
